Harry Winston has released a new limited edition watch, the Countdown to a Cure Timepiece, to benefit amfAR's (The American Foundation for AIDS Research) efforts to develop a cure for HIV/AIDS. Twenty percent of the retail sales price of each watch will be donated to the cause. The limited collection will be produced in a series of 20 women's watches and 20 men's watches.
Both watches stem from the Midnight Collection. The men's version is a simple design with an automatic movement fitted in a 42 mm white-gold case and navy blue iridescent dial with applied baton indexes. The minute track features the multi-colors of amfAR. The colors are intended to represent the transition of the disease from "crisis to cure." The watch is further accented by the date aperture appears at 6 o'clock and has center seconds. This watch retails for $21,200.
The quartz women's version features a 32 mm white-gold case with the same navy blue dial; however the women's version is set with diamond-indexes and features amfAR's multi-colored gemstones between 12 and 3 o'clock. The case if further set with three diamonds at the crown. This watch retails for $16,200.
As mentioned, 20% of the retail sales price will be donated to support research in finding a cure for HIV/AIDS – something that amfAR aims to do by 2020. The Countdown for a Cure initiative kicked off in February 2014 and they have already raised $100 million.
