This is a neat one from the good folks over at Analog/Shift. Some time back, they were asked by former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani to find a very particular timepiece – a 1962 Wittnauer Electro-Chron, given to former Major League shortstop Dick Bartell. They did, and what's more, the former Mayor then decided, after some time, to donate the watch back to Analog/Shift to auction off for charity. Oh, and what charity is most befitting? No one less than the guys at the Horological Society of New York.
The watch, customized for the New York Yankees to be given out on Old Timer's Day in 1962, features a Yankees emblem at 3 o'clock, the always cool lightning bold hands, and even the original stretch bracelet. What's more, this watch is accompanied by a typed letter from the original owner – Dick Bartell – confirming its history.
The watch will be auctioned off on Analog/Shift's website starting this Wednesday night and will run through next Friday, May 20th. All of the proceeds from this sale will be given to the HSNY, which is a 501(c)(3) non-profit. You will be able to bid on the Wittnauer with mayoral and Yankee provenance here on Wednesday night.
Analog/Shift Welcomes Geoffrey Hess To The Team
In conjunction with this donation made by former Mayor Giuliani, Analog/Shift has announced a new management team – one that includes a pillar of the New York watch collecting scene, and former partner and associate of Mayor Giuliani, Mr. Geoffrey Hess. In the watch world, Geoff is known as a passionate and friendly collector of vintage Rolex, going by the name "ManhattanRollie" on Instagram, but what you may not know is that he is the former CEO of Ivanka Trump jewelry, a founding partner and managing director of Giuliani Partners, and a close aide to Giuliani during his time as mayor. He will take on the role of CEO of Analog/Shift as the vintage watch retailer makes a push into other verticals.
Again, you can bid on this Wittnauer starting Wednesday evening at Analogshift.com
