Pre-SIHH releases are in full swing over here at HODINKEE HQ and we've just received word that MB&F will be releasing the popular LM101 in platinum.
The LM101, originally released in 2014 in white and rose gold, was a big deal when it hit the market, as it was (as we reported), both the most wearable and the most affordable Horological Machine yet from MB&F. It was quite traditional, carrying on from the design language established by the Legacy Machine 1, which itself was a major departure from the sci-fi and aerodynamic idioms that had been established for earlier Horological Machines. The LM1 continues to influence more recent Machines, such as the HM6 (or the automotive references found in HM5). The LM101 is the latest MB&F watch to resemble a conventional timepiece but still maintain the creativity that MB&F is known for (clearly we love this watch because we partnered with MB&F and its founder Max Büsser to create the limited edition HODINKEE LM101).
Like the first edition of the LM101, the new platinum case is 40 mm in diameter. The blue dial holds the suspended balance wheel, which is characteristic of the LM101. The time and power reserve are displayed on the white subsidiary dials. The movement is the same incredible manual-winding, in-house movement finished by Kari Voutilainen.
The platinum LM101 is a limited series of 33 pieces and each retail for $72,000 (as compared to $59,000 for white or rose gold).
